FOOD For Thought Webinar
Presented by Mrs. Ghina Annan ’06, Mechanical Engineer and Sustainability Specialist, on the 9th of May, 2020 on ZOOM. Ghina’s webinar entitled “Climate Change in the Era of COVID -19” tackled the transformative positive implications of the Corona Virus on the environment – yet another positive effect of this virus. She shared with her audience a global temperature variation video produced by NASA, talked about the positive impact of the coronavirus on reducing air pollution and carbon dioxide emissions, and presented solutions to the global problem of climate change that are within our reach.
The second webinar “Lebanon 2030: A New Beginning?” which took place on the 26th of May, 2020 was hosted by our alumnus Tarek Zebian ’01, Director of Research & Communications at Capital Markets Authority in collaboration with Dr. Mazen Soueid, Chairman – General Manager of IDAL, and Albert Kostanian, LBC Vision2030 Host and Consultant & Fellow at Issam Fares Institute, AUB. A total of 154 participants tuned in to the heated discussion on the Lebanese economy future which presented different perspectives on the situation.
Vaccination Debate Webinar
The third webinar was the “COVID - 19 Vaccination Debate” which took place on January 29th, 2021 and was coordinated by our alumnus Dr. Samah Abdel Baki ’97, chief medical officer of Bio Signal Group in New York, in collaboration with the invited experts Professor Richard Sinert, emergency medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York and Professor Ghassan Dbaibo, pediatrics and biochemistry and director of the Center of Infectious Diseases Research at AUBMC in Beirut. The webinar discussed the most heated topic of the year COVID – 19 and the different vaccination methods used.
Our fifth webinar held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 tackled a very interesting and important issue: Leveraging International Experiences to Advance Transparency in Lebanon.
In this Webinar, our guests, Alumnus H.E Fadi Abboud, CEO of General Packaging Industries and previous President of ISC-SABIS Alumni Association, along with Mr. Ghassan Abdel Khalek, CEO of Oneti sal industries and researcher on “The Role of Cognition in Non-Violent Change”, as well as Mr Arkan Siblini, Regional Manager at UNDP Arab States, Anti-Corruption; our guests discussed how openness, accountability, and honesty define government transparency, and how we Lebanese can achieve a free society that partakes transparency in government's obligation by learning from successful international experiences. The webinar also debated how citizens hold their public officials accountable in order to fight off corruption in Lebanese Politics and attain a more transparent ruling class.
Thursday, February 25th, 2021, the fourth webinar was held. This webinar was moderated by Dr. Hassan Abdul Aziz, MD Director of Ophthalmology, CMC Dubai, Alumnus ’03, and included the experts: Dr. Samir Alam, MD Professor of Cardiology AUH Beirut, Alumnus ’65, Dr. Toufic Eid, MBBS FRCOG, Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (President of the ISC-SABIS Alumni Association), CMC Beirut, Alumnus ’76, Dr. Clara Chamoun, MD Pulmonary/ICU Consultant, CMC Beirut and Ms. Rana Sbeity, MA Clinical psychologist alumna ’05.
As the pandemic was unfolding, COVID-19 infection had been associated with a whole range of short- and long-term effects on the body and health. During this webinar, the doctors tackled the impact of this dangerous virus on an individual’s health; the apparent symptoms on each organ of the body, the different tests that must be done during and after infection, and what can be done if and when these symptoms and syndromes are present.
The sixth webinar that the association held last year undertook a very essential topic in light of how the learning process in SABIS and Lebanese Education has changed due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.
This webinar that was held on April 6th, 2021, included Dr. Hounaida Jurdi ’93, Dr. Farah Tabaja ’09, Mr. Ghassan Kanso ’96, Dr. Batoul Safieddine ’11, and Ms. Tina Bourji ’04, and was hosted by the Head of the Alumni Association Dr. Toufic Eid.
One year after the onset of the pandemic, our speakers conducted a very useful and informative webinar debating the positives and negatives of online learning when is it comes to both schools and universities. They suggested tips for improving online learning experiences for students and how we can additionally develop this experience for all parties involved.
